Betton-Cline-Chamberlin - Stormwater Improvements Project

  • Complex Hydrodynamic Modeling
  • 3 Square Mile Watershed
  • Regulatory Permitting
  • FEMA Flood Plain Amendment

Project Design:

  • SAI designed and prepared construction plans for a number of drainage retrofit features including pond excavations, gabion construction, roadway reconstruction, box culvert and outfall structure design, sanitary sewer relocation, and littoral zones, and an in-line floatable debris skimmer and trash trap.

  • Public involvement was incorporated into the design process.

  • Another design feature bifurcated the main channel to improve water quality in the previously stagnant Laguna Pond.

  • SAI was also responsible for permitting of the project through FDEP as well as submittal of flood plain revisions to FEMA.

Stormwater Modeling / Investigation:

  • Modeling of the 3 square mile watershed was conducted using the FEMA approved ICPR model.

  • A comprehensive inventory and evaluation of the existing drainage system was conducted.

  • Flooding areas were identified and/or confirmed through a detailed comparison of modeled flood stages with known roadway and structure elevations.

  • It was determined that flooding was due in large part to lost storage capacity from siltation in existing ponds.

  • A master drainage plan was prepared to summarize the existing conditions analyses and present a plan to rectify the deficiencies.
